Just Another Tariff Update

Hi all! As many of you already know, further tariff changes were announced today, including an increase on tariffs on goods from Turkey — where we make all our apparel.

Thankfully the difference isn't huge — 10% on top of what we were already paying on imports from Turkey (which ranged from 11%-36%, depending on the garment).

We don't anticipate our prices increasing by a lot. To be completely transparent, we were already considering raising prices on our garments by $5-10 per item due to increasing manufacturing costs, and this change may be the final push that makes that necessary.

For now we're going to sit tight and see if these changes get challenged. If you're in the US and your elected representatives support these changes, we recommend sending an email, a letter, or calling their office to let them know what you think about their position. If you've never done it before, please rest assured that the people receiving your feedback are overwhelmingly kind, and it's their job to be annoyed. We here at Maya Kern believe it's your right to annoy your representatives.

If you're outside the US, please know that we're opening a fulfillment center in the UK in May or June, with another fulfillment center in the EU following if necessary. Additionally, our Canadian fulfillment center will resume receiving merchandise in June. We were already considering shipping all international orders from the UK or EU fulfillment centers to help lower shipping costs, and if we decide to move forward with that we will send out a notice via this newsletter.

And finally, a few reminders:

  • All is not lost, do not comply in advance

  • Celebrate the little wins

  • Your representatives are paid by your taxes

  • Take breaks so that when you need to be at full strength, you are

All the best,
Maya and Co.
